The LBGMS has been a nonprofit 501(c)7 educational society since 1937, encouraging the study of mineralogy, the collecting of specimens and the cutting and polishing of rock and gem material known as lapidary. Our group is filled with many enthusiastic members involved with many skills from geology to lapidary. We are part of this group because we want to seek and share our knowledge and experience with new gem and mineral enthusiast and interested members of the community. We publish a monthly newsletter called The Pick and Shovel and we host monthly meetings filled with guest speakers and discussion about rocks, minerals, geology, fossils and lapidary. As a group, we can make presentations to local schools on a variety of topics relating to the various fields of interests.
