Description
This unique, free form glass cat’s eye cabochon was donated by Andrew Fahmy and measures 35mm x 45mm. This cabochon was carved and shaped with layered levels to highlight the optical effect of “cat’s eye”. The “Cat’s eye” effect, or chatoyancy, is caused by parallel fibrous or needle-like inclusions that interfere with the passage of light through the crystal, scattering and reflecting light back to the viewer as a thin line. This bright, narrow slit is similar to the eyes of a cat, hence “cat’s eye”.
