Description

This beautiful Petrified wood cabochon was donated by Larry Bidwell and measures 30mm x 40mm. Wood becomes fossilized when plant material is buried by segment and protected from decay due to oxygen and organisms. Groundwater then flows through the sediment, replacing the original plant material with silica, calcite, pyrite, or other inorganic material. What results is something that looks like the original plant material – you may not know it’s petrified wood until you pick it up and realize how heavy it is! This cabochon is polished and convex-cut on one side and flat on the other, giving it a “domed” appearance that highlights its natural patterns. Ready for wire wrapping, setting, jewelry-making, or other lapidary or craft uses.

100% of the proceeds from your purchase will be used to fund the Bidwell Gem & Mineral Museum. All shop items were donated by members of the Glendora Gems Lapidary Club.
